This mural on Greyton Main Road is a celebration of nature and our relationship in supporting biodiversity to thrive, whether we are learners, other local residents or visiting nature lovers. We can all play a role by appreciating biodiversity, increasing our understanding, conserving nature and clearing invasives.
It includes some special species in the area such as Pelargonium greytonense, ecosystem relationships such as the sugarbush and Cape sugarbird, and the leopard as a keystone species.
The mural was developed with the kind support of the European Outdoor Conservation Association, in collaboration with Greyton House and Greyton Primêr, as well as Greyton Conservation Society. Learners participated in a nature and biodiversity storytelling and awareness session, invasive clearing and photo collaging. Dimitri Selibas contributed to storytelling. Artist and creative educator Martin Lund aka Marti MacFly used this input and inspiration to complete the mural over 3 days in May 2025.
Thanks to Anton for permission to use the wall.
We hope this mural can serve as a test case for other creative and cultural collaborations in the area in support of nature, including through the Nature Club hosted by Greyton House.
